Recycling Award won by Bethesda Baptist Church Burleson.

Once again an Abitibi representative was able to present a cheque for $500 to Bethesda Baptist Church in Burleson. The cheque was for winning a competition aimed at getting people to recycle more among the 200 DFW area organisations. The idea is that the organisations recycle at least 20% more materials than they did for a similar period the year before.

This is not the first time that the church has won this award. Paster Dr. Craig Vire and Peggy Price have been instrumental in organising the community to recycle more for many years, and have won the award twice before.

The competition is hosted by Abitibi-Consolidated and is called “What’s Your Goal?”, runs between April 1st and August 31st.

Price said that “there is so much trash nowadays, and people are concerned about leaving this world a better place for their children”, and it is this attitude that ensured that they won the award for the third time.

The parking lot of the church serves as a drop off point for the community to leave their recyclable materials. Whereas it may not be the only recycling point in the area, it has proved to be the most popular over recent years.

The church was presented with the cheque on October 2nd this year.

“This was just a collective effort by everyone” Peggy Price said, adding that “We are trying to make the world a better place.”

Recycling is an ongoing program for all the organizations involved. They earn money from the amount of paper they recycle each month. Abitibi Paper Retriever is a recycling service that is free for the community to use. It placed distinctive bins in areas where they are highly visible, throughout the community.
