Organisers of the Glastonbury Festival have said that even more recycling facilities for waste will be provided this year, including a collection point for used batteries and discarded electrical and electronic devices.

The largest festival in the UK has a history of being responsible with recycling efforts, and this year is adding a waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collection point, increasing the range of waste materials that can be recycled at the event.

Organisers envisage that most of the WEEE will be created by the festival and not the attendees, but the collection point for waste batteries will be set up for use by all.

Midex, the waste management company, will provide a protected storage cage for WEEE, making the safe and secure collection and movement of discarded equipment possible.

When the festival is over, the disused equipment will be transported to a WEEE processing facility, where components will be shredded in accordance with the requirements of the Environment Agency.

The Glastonbury Festival has made efforts to reduce its impact on the environment for years, previously providing composting toilets and biodegradable tent pegs for the use of attendees, for example.
