The plastics reprocessing firm Closed Loop Recycling is currently considering a site for their third UK facility, after having recently broken ground in North Wales for their second recycling plant.

Chris Dow, the managing director of Closed Loop, said in an interview with Packaging News that three or four sites were being considered and he was hopeful that the location could be announced “before the end of the year.”

Dow commented that the plastics recycling sector, particularly in PET plastics, is in a good position in the UK and he criticized reports in the media that there was a crisis in the industry. “It feels as if we’re now back to October 2008 levels,” he noted.

The £12-million facility in Deeside, scheduled to open near the end of this year, has sold nearly 65 per cent of its output to current Dagenham facility customers, and to some new ones.

More than 50,000 tonnes of plastic can be recycled at the plant annually. Deeside will create 50 new jobs in the area as well.

Dow added: “Deeside is a good location as it is really close to major conurbations such as Merseyside and Greater Manchester.”
