More than 1,000 residents have contacted Calderdale Council in the past week since new wheelie bins were distributed.
Some of those who called were unhappy about having to push the new bins to the kerb fortnightly when the collection system goes into effect on 20 April.
Other residents were asking for assistance and information about separating out materials for bins, bags, boxes and buckets.
Over the next five weeks, before the new collection system is introduced, Sita UK will be distributing new containers to additional 50,000 homes.
When the new system for collection and recycling is launched, binmen will carry clipboards and hand-held computers designed to help them sort out the details of the service.
Malcolm Ackroyd, Calderdale Council’s waste collection manager, noted that he expected some problems when the system was launched but that staff are being trained up for the collection and recycling service changes that begin in April.
One of the problems he points out is the identification of what should be collected from the tens of thousands of homes on a daily basis. Ackroyd said that collection teams would be provided with the necessary information at the beginning of each working day.
Not all properties on a given streets will meet the criteria for wheelie bins, and some homes with elderly residents will have requested help, so not all bins will have been moved to the kerb on collection days.
