Recycling champions in Norfolk are looking for nominations of local heroes for their special awards schem.
The Norfolk Waste Partnership, comprising local authorities that are tasked with encouraging the public to reduce waste, as well as reuse and recycle it, is asking for nominations for the annual waste awards.
Barry Coleman, who is the Yarmouth council leader and chairman of the partnership, explained: “These awards are about recognising and celebrating waste reduction and recycling-related achievements that together help keep waste out of landfill sites in Norfolk.”
He added: “We all have a responsibility to reduce the amount of waste we create, and this is an excellent opportunity to acknowledge people who make an extra contribution and often inspire others to do more.”
The partnership is inviting entries from businesses, community groups, individuals and social enterprises in Norfolk, who have made a difference during the past year by successfully dealing with Norfolk’s waste problems.
Prizes will include cash for charity, a free two-day break at a north Norfolk coast eco-resort and “green” shopping vouchers.
The Norfolk County Council waste partnership and strategy officer, Mark Henderson, commented: “We’re now in our sixth year, and each year we have seen an increasing number and variety of entries. We won’t just be looking for activities that tackle large amounts of waste - even small-scale activities can make a difference and encourage more people to do their bit.”
