Making it easy to read recycling

Consumers have been facing a lot of issues regarding how to understand the various symbols and logos used to promote recycling. To put an end to this, the British Retail Consortium has come up with a new strategy to replace the logo on all packaging. This would be standard and can be understood by all since the logo speaks for itself. These logos aim at removing any traces of confusion and define clearly the mode of recycling to be adopted for that particular product. There are three different logos that are going to be put in place and each one is for a different purpose.

Some of the retailers who have joined hands in taking this forward are B&Q, Marks& Spencer, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Alliance Boots. From now on, all products manufactured and sold will have the logo in a visible position. If the packaging has a “widely recycled” logo on it, it means that nearly 60% or more of the local authorities can recycle it. In case you see a “not currently recycled” symbol, it represents the fact that less than 20% of the local authorities can recycle. And the third being “check locally”, it is where about 20% - 65% of the local authorities being able to recycle them. Since these logos would be in effect from the following year, the manufacturers and retailers can make amends to incorporate them right away. If a product cannot be recycled in an area, it might be recyclable elsewhere, although this hasn’t occurred yet
