Firms will be able to recycle their plastic waste on site, with the help of an innovation to be introduced by a UK plastics recycling firm.
A mobile service provided by Reformo is incorporated into a truck wagon that is driven to plastics processor sites, allowing them to recycle plastic waste on the spot.
The truck wagon has granulation and conveying equipment on board that is supplied by Summit Systems. The process involves scrap being loaded onto a ground-level conveyor, and then transported into the granulator. After the granulation process is complete, the material is passed through a metal detector and then into bags.
Process scrap and plastic parts from the automobile industry, including bumpers and injection moulding machine sprues, are some of the items that can be recycled using this mobile process.
Once the granulation is complete, the processors can reuse the plastic or Reformo will purchase it.
Reformo’s managing director, Stuart McPherson, has said that the mobile granulation scheme reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, and also reduces the transportation costs of scrap, which before granulation or shredding is often quite bulky.
McPherson added: “Summit Systems have provided an excellent service from understanding of my original concept right through to the finished article we see today. Reformo received good input ideas from Summit’s project team, who continually kept us aware of progress.”
