When a study was conducted by the Green peace International organisation, they discovered that Nintendo Corporation ranked last. This was to test how many companies follow the use of non toxic chemicals and are into recycling, and this company scored zero. They were criticized for not caring for the environment and creating games using vinyl plastics and not recycling their consoles and other products. In all, there were nine categories that the companies were judged on, and Nintendo, in its first year of participation lost out.
On the other hand Microsoft’s Xbox 360 came in on the 16th position in a survey conducted on a total of 18companies. The company stated that they had no plans of doing away with use of toxic chemicals till 2011. The board admonished them and graded them as being “Partially Bad” and “bad” in most of the categories related to recycling issues.
The company that did come out a winner was Sony Ericsson, who has eliminated the use of toxic waste and are into recycling of all their parts. Their phones are said to not have any traces of vinyl plastic for nearly a year now. Their competition Nokia Oyj lost many places landing in the 9th spot since they did not take back products from countries like Thailand, and Argentina at the time when the survey was being carried out. The purpose of this survey is to encourage manufacturers to adopt recycling as part of their process and help better the surroundings.
