WRAP Offers New Grant Programme

Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has announced the launch of a new Capital Grant Programme, designed to offer financial aid to companies working to prevent construction waste from being sent to landfill.

The grant is designed to be a competitive process which will lead to increased efforts regarding the recycling of construction, demolition and excavation (CD&E) waste from construction building sites. Although the scheme is focussed primarily on supporting new programmes and installations, existing materials recycling facilities (MRFs) and processors are also eligible if the grant would help to support upgrades in equipment and reprocessing capacity.

The WRAP CD&E Waste Capital Grant Programme includes a wide range of materials including glass, packaging waste, plastics, off-cuts and waste timber, and various inert materials such as soil. Applications are being sought by firms that are developing new or existing CD&E waste processing and recycling facilities. WRAP will provide up to 30% of the total costs of facility including equipment and infrastructure.

David Connor, material recycling project manager for WRAP explained: “The purpose of this Capital Grant Programme is to provide grants that will help develop the capacity needed to recycle construction demolition and excavation waste. We are specifically interested in proposals that will significantly increase the quantity and quality of CD&E waste materials recovered, separated and recycled from construction sites, and which can act as exemplars to encourage greater investment in recycling capacity.”

Currently, the Capital Grant is only available in England. WRAP plans to launch a similar programme in Scotland this fall.
