Bad Shopping Habits Encourage Recycling

It’s a known fact that many women love to shop. However, they also have a tendency to buy things that don’t fit, in the hopes that the snug garment will be the necessary incentive to lose a few pounds.

A recent survey showed that 49% of UK women purchase clothes that are too small. Unfortunately, those pounds often do not come off and the shoppers are stuck with items they can’t use. Nearly 45% of the women surveyed also confessed to buying shoes that don’t fit just because they liked them.

It’s a good thing that clothing and shoes are recyclable.

The survey conducted by Miss Bimbo, revealed that approximately 69% of UK shoppers recycle unwanted garments and accessories by adding them to a recycling bin or other drop off sites such as those maintained by charities or not-for-profit agencies.

While 35% of respondents will purchase items in a charity shop, nearly 63% prefer to shop on High Street. A total of 60% buy clothes online; 29% buy clothes from supermarkets; 71% purchase items just because it is on sale; 29% of the shoppers have worn a garment and then returned it to the store.

Miss Bimbo website operator, Chris Evans, said: “It says a lot about female psychology that one in two women buy clothes or shoes they know won’t fit them.”

“The pressure is on to look great all the time, and I think it is hard for some women to walk away from certain items of clothing, even though they know they won’t ever be able to wear them.”
