Mississippi Scouts Host Recruitment and Recycling Event

It’s not often that Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts join together to host an event to support their membership. This weekend, the Scouts did just that while promoting environmental awareness.

Girl Scout membership and marketing director Linda Lauderdale said this is the first time the two local councils have teamed up.

“I believe this is the first time that the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have joined together to introduce families to Scouting in our area,” Lauderdale said.

“For families who aren’t yet involved in Scouting, this event will give them an opportunity to see what it’s all about. Parents can register their daughters for Girl Scouts and their sons for Boy Scouts. For families who are already in Scouting, this will also be a fun day for them to spend time together learning how to protect our environment. It’s a great start to the new Scout year.”

In addition to various activities and a membership drive, Scouts and guests were privy to a large amount of information plus regarding Scouting activities, hoping to get the attention of potential Scouts and their families. The event was free, except for the rock climbing wall, which had a $5 admission. However, there was a discount for those that brought along ink cartridges for recycling.

According to Lauderdale, each activity booth had a “Go Green” theme and focussed on promoting environmental awareness in “fun, creative ways”.
