Sony electronics has devised a method of adding to the recycling drive. They are inviting people to give back their televisions when they are finished with them and ready to throw them out. Sony is probably the first company to start something like this and the response has been phenomenal. The Electronic take back coalition has launched the Take back my TV project which encourages other Electronic companies to adopt the strategy as a way of reducing on waste. During holidays, most of us tend to invest in a new TV or a stereo system, and what do we do with the old? Trash it. Well, from now on, all we have to do is give it back to the manufacturer and get a new one in exchange for it. This way, users don’t have to worry about how to dispose their old sets and enjoy their shopping spree.
Sony has also taken on more in relation to this; they are making sure the company doing the recycling is not exporting the toxic waste to smaller countries. They have put in place various collection centers and agencies to carry out this take your TV back campaign and make it successful. This is a long term solution for disposal of electronic waste, that would otherwise be accumulated in the garbage dumps and add to the pollution. Something close to 400 million electronic goods was given away last year which needs to be reduced.
