LaCenterra Plans Electronics Recycling Day

They say that everything is bigger in better in Texas. Hopefully, the upcoming electronics recycling day will live up to the slogan. LaCenterra has joined forces with local recycling firm, AERC, and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce to host a free electronic recycling day on Saturday, September 13. The event, which will be run starting at 9 A.M., will be held at LaCenterra on Cinco Ranch Boulevard at Grand Parkway.

The amount of electronics recycled, measured in pounds, will determine the amount of the donation that will be made to The Arc of Katy, a not-for-profit organisation committed to enriching of the lives of cognitively, intellectually and developmentally disabled citizens. The organisation offers a wide variety of programmes designed to incorporate their clients into mainstream society.

Items being accepted at the recycling drive include: desktop and laptop computers, printers, keyboards and mice, telecom equipment, mobile phones, land line telephones, wires, and cables.

Items that will not be accepted include: refrigerators, televisions, lead acid batteries, and air conditioners.

It becomes more important every day for people to recycle their old and unwanted electronics. Otherwise, the items are most likely being sent to landfill, a practice which is harmful to the environment in a number of ways. Electronic equipment contains many reusable parts that can be remanufactured or resold, thereby conserving resources and saving money. Additionally, electronic waste contains a number of toxic heavy metals which can leach into the soil and harm crops and groundwater.
