University Staff Member Receives Outstanding Service Award

The University of Texas Dallas Career Center has a lot to be proud of when it comes to its staff. One of the most recent accomplishments is the presentation of the 2007-2008 Staff Council’s Sandee Goertzen Award given to administrative assistant Darlene Coppage.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding Staff Council leadership and contributions. The award was named a long term UT Dallas employee who directed Staff Council from 1996 to 2000, and once again from 2003 to 2006.

Coppage has done a great deal for the Career Center, including chairing the Staff Council Fund Raising Committee. Coppage has also re-organized the university’s printer ink cartridge recycling program.

Universities are an excellent place in which to institute ink cartridge recycling programs. Thousands of ink cartridges are used on campus each year and it only makes sense that Coppage would re-organize a program that not only saves money and makes money, but also helps the environment, as well.

Fellow Staff Council members are responsible for donating worthy individuals as Sandee Goertzen Award recipients. The nominees are reviewed and then decided upon by a committee of the nominee’s peers.

In recognition of her accomplishments, Coppage received a trophy, certificate, and a free university parking pass for the year.

“Darlene has a servant’s heart, and leads by example,” said Chris Dickson, the current Staff Council president.

“She cares about staff and is always seeking ways to make a contribution,” he said.
