If you want to talk about a mobile phone manufacturer who is doing its job to promote mobile phone recycling programs worldwide, look no further than the Sharp Electronics Corporation. As one of the leading recycling promoters, Sharp has made leaps and bounds in the industry. While other manufactures depend on third party companies to do all the work Sharp is stepping in and getting in on the action. In 2006 Sharp collected nearly 23 tons of unused electronic equipment for recycling programs. Included in this were computer components as well as mobile devices. The following year Sharp collected over 150 tons of ewaste from the States of Minnesota and Maine alone. These staggering numbers prove that Sharp is committed to mobile phone recycling programs.
In 2007 Sharp partnered with other industry giants Toshiba and Panasonic to start the Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company. This company has worked alongside the EPA Plug into E-cycling Program as well as other local mobile phone recyclers who donate profits to local charities and organizations.
Sharp isn’t just putting these programs to work in the United States, in fact similar projects are being implemented by Sharp’s global operations. Working with national environmental groups Sharp has had the opportunity to reduce the amount of electronic waste that is added to landfills each year. It is their hope that other mobile phone manufacturers and service providers follow their lead to eliminate all electronic waste. It might not happen overnight but it is definitely a possibility with Sharp at the helm doing their bit with recycling mobile phones.
