Beginning in 2005 Samsung Electronics partnered with shipping giant FedEx to start a recycling program for printer and copier cartridges. Today this program has expanded to cover mobile phone recycling as well. The Samsung Mobile Take Back Program is the company’s solution to dealing with the increasing amount of electronic waste being dumped into landfills each year. This program asks Samsung users to send in their old mobile phones via mail or FedEx to ensure they are disposed of properly and in accordance to federal law. Doing so reduces the pollution caused from the degrading of cellular phones and batteries.
Samsung provides users with helpful tips to make it easy to recycle your phone. These tips include advising customers to allow the battery charge to drain completely from the device before packaging. Additionally Samsung reminds customers to remove all personal data including stored numbers from the phone memory. In some cases these phones are reused or refurbished and Samsung does not want customers to have their information used improperly if left on a mobile phone. Thirdly, Samsung advises customers to mail phones and accessories in an envelope no larger than 5.5” x 7.5 inches. To ensure that the device reaches Samsung customers only have to print out a prepaid mailing label and affix it to the envelope.
If you are a Samsung user or know someone who recently purchased a new mobile phone consider sending in your old mobile phone for recycling. These services will help you get rid of some of the clutter in your home and help to save the environment by recycling old mobile phones.
