Residents in Teignbridge now have the ability to recycle from their home with the boxes and bin collection service from Teignbridge District Council. The residents in Teignbridge are provided with one of the most comprehensive programs for recycling in all of the United Kingdom. The collection may reuse more than 60% of all normal rubbish from households.
Teignbridge District Council has and will provide green and black boxes, as well as green bins, for residents to recycle. Batteries, printer cartridges, and mobile phones are to be placed in the green box, as well as clean glass jars and bottles and cloudy plastic bottles. Dry cell batteries that are to be recycled need to be put in a plastic bag and left on top of the green box.
Cans that contained drinks and food are to be put into the black box after they have been rinsed. Newspapers, empty aerosols, magazines, and other dry, clean, white paper can be put in this box as well. If it is raining on your collection day, then the paper items need to be placed into a carrier bag that is only folded over in order to keep the paper dry.
Items that can go in the green bin are uncooked and cooked food waste that has been wrapped in newspaper and garden waste, which includes weeds, grass cuttings, hedge clippings, and small branches. Thin cardboard can be placed in this bin also, such as toilet roll tubes, cereal boxes, yellow pages, and shredded paper. Wet paper is to be placed here as well.
All of the collected recyclables from the boxes are taken to Newton Abbot, the bulking station, where they are gathered and sorted before being transported. All of the items collected from the bins, which are compostable, are taken to their composting facility to be processed.
