When learning of the recycling program offered by Taunton Deane District Council, you will find that they provide a weekly service using a green box. The box should be placed outside, ready to be collected by 7am, on the day that the collectors are scheduled to pick it up. The days and times that they will collect your recyclables will vary depending on where you live, and this can be found out by calling Taunton Deane District Council or going to their website.
The green box or bin is to be placed at the edge of your property as close to the road as it can be so that the collectors can clearly see it. The recyclables that can be put in the green box include: papers like magazines, junk mail, newspapers, and telephone directories; drink and food cans that have been washed out; aluminum foil that has been cleaned and put into a separate bag; glass jars and bottles; clothes that have been placed in a separate bag to keep dry and are marked ‘textiles; shoes that are tied together in pairs and kept in a separate bag; and engine oil/car batteries, where they should be placed beside the recycling box and in a sealed container sitting upright.
Garden waste is collected as well, except on alternate weeks and in a green wheeled bin or sack. You can get your sack or bin for the garden waste by ordering it from Taunton Deane District Council for a fee. Plastic bags are not to be placed in the bins or bags, as they are not decomposable.
