Pallets, also coined a skid, have a flat surface where transportable materials like products and goods are placed. This gives them stability as they are being picked up by the forklift and placed in the transport vehicle. Pallets can come in wood, metal, plastic, and cardboard. Although not as common as plastic and wood, metal pallets are also available. These metal pallets can also be recycled to be used in the manufacturing of materials for construction purposes.
Wood pallets can be shipped to companies that recycle them. There, they will be repaired if they are damaged and then resold to other consumers, the prices of which are dependent upon the condition of the pallet. The metals on the wood pallet like the nails and staples are also recycled.
Damaged or useless plastic pallets, on the other hand, are melted down and then reformed to produce new pallets. But these plastic pallets though that were recycled are not that capable to hold heavier loads as compared to its original state, so for recycled plastic pallets, they can only carry lighter goods.
Cardboard pallets, the easiest to break or get damaged, are the most recyclable of all types of pallets. The method for recycling this type of pallet is just like how a typical cardboard is recycled.
With all these recyclable pallets, we can be assured that it will reduce the load of landfills as well as save money, natural resources, raw materials, and energy. In the long run, we can expect a reduction in the greenhouse effect.
