Many environmentalists advocate the recycling of batteries nowadays. They state that it is important for batteries to be recycled because, if they are not properly disposed of, land and water could become contaminated by the heavy metals and the harmful toxins that batteries contain. But what are the kinds of batteries that can be recycled?
Almost all kinds of batteries can now be recycled, but there are just some types of batteries that are more easily recyclable than others. These kinds of batteries are the lead-acid and the silver-oxide batteries. Examples of lead-acid batteries are the batteries from cars, motorcycles, and fork lifts. UPS batteries are also lead-acid, so they are recyclable. On the other hand, silver-oxide batteries are those that are commonly used in watches as well as in toys.
There are companies where you can mail your used batteries. These old batteries will then undergo numerous processes where the components are separated, and these components are the plastic, the lead, and the sodium sulfate. Now, its plastic components will be recycled to create new plastic pellets, which will then be used in new covers and cases for the battery. Lead ingots are also created from the old lead component, which then again becomes the battery’s new grid and lead oxide. Sodium sulfate, on the other hand, is recycled and is mainly used by the glass and textile industry. The detergent companies also make use of sodium sulfate from old batteries.
The process of recycling batteries can go on for years, and the process never sacrifices
